Let’s Get Cooking
Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Then start cooking the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions until it’s al dente. Drain the cooked macaroni and set it aside. Next, shred all cheese needed for cheese sauce.
Cook: In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in the all-purpose flour to create a roux, and cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until it turns a light golden color.
Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken. Reduce the heat to low, and add in the shredded cheese, stirring until it’s fully melted and the sauce is creamy.
Season the cheese sauce with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
Pour the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce and gently fold them together until every pasta piece is coated in the creamy goodness.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the macaroni and cheese is bubbly and the top is golden brown.

Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased 9×13 baking dish. Sprinkling the top with the remaining cheese.

Serve: Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Optional:
Milk: This recipes can be used with whole milk or 2% milk, it is based of personal preference. Personally when I use whole milk i think it makes for a creamier Mac than 2%.
Cheese: While cheddar is always a go-to for macaroni and cheese, don’t be afraid to swap out for smoked gouda or pepper jack for a kick.
